What is the Best Pet For Hunter?

If you want to be the best hunter you will need the best pet! Before we answer that question, lets take a quick look at the requirements.

PvP Content

There are three categories of PVP content in game at the moment, arena, battlegrounds and world pvp; with first two being the most interesting and popular. Hunters are an amazing class in PvP with great utilities for it.

Hunters play style will depend on his spec but in the end it all breaks down to who will gain control of the fight, and to do so you will have to keep your enemies in check. Hunter is a ranged dps class meaning while their target is in melee range they can’t do much.

Keeping distance from their enemies is a must for all hunters. Various traps and abilities that hunter poses will allow them to do so but sometimes they just won’t be enough to keep the enemies away.

Most common spec for PvP hunters is definitely survival due to high amount of burst damage and survivability, MM or marksmanship is somewhat not so common spec as it offers less survivability followed by beast mastery in third place.

So which is best?

Question is, which hunter pet will help me to keep control over my enemies? Answer is, usually Crab and Spider, and those are the most common used pets in arenas and battlegrounds. Every hunter must know how to kite his targets around while doing as much damage as possible.

Spider pets

Spiders are cunning pets and the reason why they are being used so often is their unique ability called web: encases the target into sticky web, preventing them from moving for four seconds.

This ability has 40 second cool down and if used correctly together with other hunter abilities will give you enough movement impairing effects to keep enemies out of your face. Web is not dispelable and only way to remove them is with abilities like hand of freedom from paladin.

The down side is that spiders don’t have damage output of ferocity pets and survivability of tenacity pets. They are also easy to feed as their diet is meat!

Crab pets

Crabs are probably second most used pets in arena and have similar unique ability to spiders called pin, which will also immobilize target for four seconds dealing nature damage to them, however, this effect is dispelable. Nevertheless, crabs are tenacity pets and will be a lot harder to kill than spiders.

PvE content

PVE is all about raiding, downing new bosses and doing hard modes. Hunter is a pure dps class and thus their main and only task is to do maximum damage in boss fights.

Most common specs are marksmanship and survival where beast mastery is not viable raiding spec due to very low dps compared to other hunter specs. Looking at the hunter’s role in raids, picking pet is quite easy as ferocity pets will produce maximum amount of dps.

Now the question comes down to which of the ferocity pets is the best, and once again question is simple to answer: wolf! Wolves’ special ability will raise both their and your attack power by 320 for 20 seconds with 40 seconds cool down, which is really amazing.
