Hunters are a unique dps class and they rely on pets in all aspects of the game since pets are their trademark.
So when you choose a pet, choose him wisely! We can sort them into three groups, based on their abilities: Cunning,
Ferocity and Tenacity. For a full list of Hunter Pets check out Petopia or see our Best Hunter Pet Guide
Cunning pets
They are made for PvP as their talent trees are flexible and based around mobility and utility and most of the
hunters use this pet subgroup in PvP.
In this group we will include: spiders, bats, birds of prey, sillithids, chimeras, ravagers and others. Each of
them poses a very different abilities i.e. spiders can immobilize targets, bats can stun etc.
Mostly for PvP hunters use spiders due to the immobilize effect. Spending talents in the tree will further
upgrade your pet with more stamina, speed, survivability or even with a unique ability like roar of sacrifice which
allows pets to absorb 30% of incoming damage to you.
Web - Puts the target in very sticky webs while preventing the movement for 4 sec.
Sonic screech - will stun enemies for 2 seconds
Guide to Hunter Pets!
Ferocity pets
Ferocity has its talent tree focused more on dps, boosting your dps and pet’s dps. Ferocity pets are ideal for
raids and dungeons and in some cases they can add a very fine tune to your team’s dps for arenas.
Pets that have ferocity talent trees are: wolves, core hounds, moths, cats, raptors and others. Usually their
special abilities will do additional damage, but some will increase your and your pet’s damage.
Core hounds lava breath can be really useful in pvp as it will reduce casting speed of its target by 25 %. This
can be nice in 3v3 arenas, where the incoming damage combined with that kind of debuff can win matches.
Wolf’s Furious Howl on the other hand is considered to be the most useful special ability for max dps in raids.
Ferocity pet’s talents are designed either for more survivability or buffing dps for you and your pet, with
abilities like call of the wild and heart of phoenix.
Tenacity
Tenacity pets are not designed for maximum damage or mobility / utility but for tanking, their talent tree will
boost your pet’s survivability and health. Some of their special abilities are made so they will take less damage
and keep the enemies focused on them rather than on a hunter.
Some of these pets are viable in arena but very few, while for raiding most of them isn’t useful in raids.
Mainly crab is viable for pvp as it can pin the target in pace for four seconds while other pets are mostly just
for tanking and leveling.
What is the best choice for me?
The best choice for pet isn’t probably simple to answer, it depends on your plans PvP or PvE, and your spec of
course.
Most hunters in arena use spiders or crabs due to their immobilization abilities. Some hunters still use
scorpids but are rarely seen.
PvE pets
For dungeons and raiding, wolf would probably be the best choice even though some hunters still prefer cats and
similar kind. Note that for Beast mastery spec you will need to get a special pet which can do more damage, i.e.
spirit beast.
For leveling purposes a good suggestion would be a bear or boar as they are the best tanks and even the turtle
can prove to be excellent. For more see our Best Hunter Pet Guide
