PvP After WotLK: Your Priest Can Dominate
PvP combat is in your Priest’s future, even if you’ve avoided it so far. Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK) has brought more advanced, real time battles to the game.
The first real time PvP battle zone is Lake Wintergrasp. There players go at it on the live server (no instancing) to earn points that allow them to buy special items.
With Lake Wintergrasp’s high popularity, and the trend toward PvP combat in the gaming industry, you’ll surely see more even more PvP in WoW in the future. Here’s what you need to know for your Priest to excel in this new world:
Competing in WoW PvP combat as a Priest requires a lot of forethought and planning. With loads of mana and all sorts of heals, a Priest can be a strong PvP combatant. However, since they have a low health level and no armor, if an opponent can get past your Priest’s defenses, it’s all over. If you’re going to do well in Priest PvP combat, you had better have a smart plan. If you don’t, expect your Priest to be doing more dying than winning.
When a Priest is part of a PvP combat team, it’s usually assumed that the Priest is there to heal the rest of the party. But it doesn’t have to work this way. Holy and Discipline Priests are extremely useful as part of arena or battleground groups, providing debuffs, buffs, and generally filling the time-honored healer role. Then there are the Shadow Priests. Armed with potent DPS (Damage Per Second) attacks, they can not only cause real harm to the enemy, but they can still do some healing for their allies. Whether your Priest primarly supports your party, or primarily goes out to do damage to the enemy depends on how you develop and play the class.
A Priest can be highly effective against many classes – they can crowd control with Fear and deal DoTs (Damage Over Time) spells, while at the same time, they can dispell most any spell an opponent casts. But put a Priest up against other classes, and the Priest will be helpless to defend itself. For example, an unskilled Priest has little hope of survival against a Rogue.
