Shamans decide the role they shall be taking up in the case of leveling up as well as adventuring in parties and raids by themselves. For this they have two available options. Shamans can either DPS or heal, but there is a specialty in a healing shaman that is apparently absent in case of other healers. They can heal three targets consecutively with the help of a spell called the chain heal. However, the healing property of the spell decreases by 50% with each jump of the chain.
DPS Shamans can choose among melee and spell castings. Casting shamans are the most popular ones for DPS since they can accompany each spell they cast with earth shock and chain lightning. A spell used against a shaman or a close member of the party can be can be absorbed with the help of one of their totems, and they can even cause an interruption to the generation of any spell.
With their ability to quickly perform large amounts of damage, it’s no wonder that Shamans are a popular class when forming PvP groups. Shamans can burn through a targets health in a matter of seconds, making them vicious in arena fights, but it comes at a heavy cost to their mana bar. When Shamans are healing, they are able to pass some of their jobs off onto their totems, which can automatically perform some of the more mundane tasks of healing.
